You may wonder why you need to keep watering your roses or how you should water your roses. I am writing this because I have seen some roses where they have not received enough water and the quality of the roses have been very poor.
Here are my tips for watering your roses:
- Apply a large amount of water to the soil around the rose base to encourage deeper root growth.
- It’s best to water at the base of the plant this means you will avoid wetting the leaves which will prevent fungal diseases appearing on your roses.
- Early morning water is always best because it allows the foliage to dry before evening, and this will minimise disease risks.
- Always adjust the way you water or the amount you water depending on the type of soil you have and the weather conditions. Ask me to check your soil to determine if you have sandy soil or clay soil. The type of soil you have means we need to adjust how much watering you do.
- Sometimes I will recommend you put down mulch around the base of your roses because this will help retain moisture and regulate the temperature of your soil.
- I always recommend that you water your roses more frequently when the roses have just been planted until they are established. New roses should be watered more regularly, and I can advise you on that when I come to see you.
- Always be mindful of the look of your roses. If you see any signs of wilting or yellowing of the leaves this can be an indication that your roses need more or less water. If unsure, please call me.
- Please remember that unless I observe your roses, I cannot guess the condition of your roses.
If you feel that there is a problem with your roses and your property is in the area that I service, I will organise a time to meet with you and look at your roses.
If you want to learn how to care about your roses, please contact me and I will organise a time to help you and guide you.
