Winter Pruning

Why it is important to do a Winter prune…

If you have taken on a new property that has roses growing in your garden or you have started a garden and want to plant roses you may not realise that it really is important to care for your roses.

Caring for your roses includes a Winter prune. The reasons why I make Winter pruning a huge part of my winter services is because I care for many roses gardens and the prune that takes place during the cooler months is to remove dead or diseased branches, it is also done to improve plant health and growth and to prepare your roses for the spring bloom.

The reason why we do a hard prune during the Winter or cooler months is because it is less stressful on your roses. It is easier to see the structure of your roses with less leaves and this time of year you see less disease. This time of year, also allows me to see what may have affected your roses in the warmer months.

Caring for your roses at this time of the year will help your roses growth and you will see them start budding not long after.

If you would like me to care for your roses, I am already taking bookings for next Winter. If you haven’t had your roses pruned this year, please give me a call as I am still pruning through September.
