Old roses
If the roses or rose bush in your garden is looking very old, it could mean that it it time to consider replacing it with a new rose.
What we need to remember is, that there will come a time when your roses will be too old and they will start looking old, the dead wood and dry stems don’t show any signs of green life or the old stems may turn grey or brown and the bark may start peeling away. These are definite signs that your roses are aging.
Age and other circumstances may make it time for your roses to be replaced. And often even though you have provided proper care, the time may come that you need to look at removing the old roses and put in new ones that will give your garden a boost.
Other signs to look out for if you think your roses are getting old include, smaller and few flowers. You might notice the flower size has changed and the quantity of flowers on your rose bush has decreased and they may not be as vibrant as they were. You may also notice that the growth is stunted, and they may be twiggy like compared to healthy strong younger stems.
What you can do to try and help your roses is to do regular pruning especially in the winter months and remove old unproductive wood. Ensure your roses bushes are growing in well-draining soil and that the soil is getting enough nutrients.
Unfortunately, though is some cases, you may do all this to try and give your roses a second chance, but it may come down to the fact that your roses are past their use by date and it’s time to replace them.
