There Are No Guarantees When Roses Are Not Doing Well

Even with the best intentions, roses don’t always behave the way we want. Weather, soil, watering, age and previous pruning all affect how your roses perform, and sometimes a plant struggles despite your care. There are no guarantees in gardening, but there are ways to give your roses the best chance.

At JGS Roses, our role is to step in and help you work out what’s really going on in your garden. We don’t grow and sell roses but we specialise in pruning, feeding, mulching and caring for the roses you already have. When we visit, we look at the whole picture: soil condition, watering patterns, sun exposure, pests, disease and how the rose has been pruned in the past.

Sometimes we can turn a struggling rose around with better pruning, improved feeding and the right mulch. Other times, a rose may simply be at the end of its life or badly damaged and not recover, no matter what you do. It’s important to be realistic, but also hopeful – many roses bounce back beautifully when given proper care and time.

If your roses are not doing well, don’t feel you’ve failed. Asking for help is often the best first step. I can assess your garden on site, explain what’s happening in plain language, and put a care plan in place to give your roses the best possible chance to improve.
